| :: Mission |
The Department of Psychology of Syracuse University is dedicated to training Clinical and School Psychologists in state of the art techniques in Psychological Assessment and Psychotherapy. Our program is fully accredited by the American Psychological Association, and we attract the very best students from around the country and the world. Our faculty supervisors are Licensed Psychologists and practicing Clinicians who are devoted to the dual task of training of our student-therapists and assuring the best of care to the clients we serve.
Because we are engaged in training as well as service, we can provide psychological services at affordable rates that are also negotiable for those who are financially in need. Our primary concern is with providing the best possible psychological service to those who seek our help, and our primary reward is the opportunity to contribute to the well being of the Syracuse community.
Our clinic is staffed by advanced doctoral students in Clinical and School Psychology who are also involved in research and prevention activities in the areas of cardiovascular health, eating disorders, substance abuse, and sexual health. |
| :: Our Services |
We specialize in the assessment and treatment of a variety of psychological problems in adults and adolescents, including mood and anxiety disorders, eating disorders, relationship problems, work stress, and academic difficulties. We also evaluate and treat attention, learning, and behavior problems in children. We serve Syracuse University students and employees as well as residents of the larger Syracuse community. We work with individuals, couples, and families. Referrals from health care professionals and social service agencies are very welcome.
An initial appointment can be scheduled by contacting our Intake coordinator at 443-3595. An initial interview will usually be scheduled within a week. Our assessment process is guided by structured clinical interviews and client questionnaires that are highly reliable and valid in determining the nature and extent of psychological distress. Comprehensive psycholgical assessments can be completed. These assessments can provide the basis for developing individualized treatment plans for psychotherapeutic intervention. All of our psychological services are closely supervised. |
| :: Access |
Our clinic is located on the edge of the Syracuse University campus, on University Avenue between Marshall Street and Waverly Avenue, directly across from the University Sheraton. Metered parking is available on the street or a fee based parking garage is located along University Avenue, with entrances on Harrison Street and East Adams Street. The clinic is wheelchair assessible.
Initial assessment and feedback services are available to Syracuse University students, staff, and faculty free of charge. Continuing treatment to University affiliates is provided at a rate of $10.00 per session. Our fees for clients not affiliated with the University are determined by a sliding scale based on income and number of dependents in the household. Sliding scale fees range from a minimum of $10.00 to a maximum of $50.00 per session (45-50 minutes in duration). Because our providers are Psychologists-in-training, our services are not presently covered by health insurance.
