I conduct research relevant to the prevention and treatment of alcohol use disorders, with an emphasis on enhancing motivation for change. One active research area involves studying psychological factors that affect the use and abuse of alcohol and other drugs by college students, and using motivational enhancement interventions to reduce risks and to prevent harm related to drinking. An additional research focus is the assessment and treatment of substance abuse and dependence in persons with other psychiatric disorders.
